Chester County Public Library

Available Programs

The Chester Co. Library offers many different programs for children.

Story Time - Pre-school Story Time is every Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:30 year round. However, all ages are welcome. We read favorite stories, do finger plays, and color a picture that goes along with whatever we have read.

Brown Bag Book Club - The Brown Bag Book Club is a book club for adults and meets every second Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. in the library conference room. The group selects a book every month to read and discuss. Previous selections have included The Kite Runner, The Glass Castle, Under the Banner of Heaven, Walking Across Egypt and many others both fiction and non-fiction.

Summer Reading Program - Every summer, our library has a summer reading program on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays usually during the month of June. We schedule various programs that both entertain and educate. Children of all ages are welcome. Some of our programs have been puppet shows, a program featuring loccal wildlife, celtic history, fishing, scuba diving, and beekeeping. Children who wish to may fill out Reading Logs or Listening Logs to receive prizes for the number of books they read from the library during the reading program's duration.

Middle School Book Club - The Middle School Book Club is open to children who have finished third grade through sixth grade. The group meets every Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. during the months of June and July. A book is selected for the entire group to read, and it is discussed at the following meeting. The children usually do either an art project or a game that goes along with the book, and a snack is served that is book-related. Some of our previous favorites have been The Wizard Of Oz, Emily's Runaway Imagination, My Side of the Mountain, The Penderwicks, Amelia Earhart: Young Aviator, and Jeremy Thatcher: Dragon Hatcher. Each child is responsible for purchasing his/her own book.
